Committed to advocacy and legislative affairs, ASA actively engages in shaping federal legislation and promoting the interests of anesthesiologists nationwide.

Internship Summary:
Join ASA as a Summer Intern and immerse yourself in the dynamic field of advocacy and legislative affairs. This internship provides a unique opportunity to track and review federal legislation, participate in Capitol Hill Committee hearings, draft reports, and contribute to various advocacy initiatives. As an Advocacy and Legislative Affairs Intern, you will collaborate with ASA lobbyists, draft communications materials, and engage in grassroots activities to support the organization's mission.

Responsibilities:
-Track and review federal legislation, staying informed on key developments.
-Attend House and Senate Committee hearings on Capitol Hill and provide concise reports.
-Accompany ASA lobbyists to hill meetings and contribute to advocacy efforts.
-Draft advocacy alerts, articles, and social media posts, including political action committee solicitations/campaigns.
-Assist in tracking member participation in PAC and Grassroots activities.
-Contribute to the development of plans to engage membership and state components.
-Conduct research and analysis on various topics, including state and federal legislation or regulatory issues.
-Assist in developing materials for presentations or briefings for membership and policymakers.
-Undertake other duties as assigned to support advocacy initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Strong interest in advocacy, legislative affairs, or political science.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-Ability to conduct thorough research and analysis on legislative and regulatory issues.
-Detail-oriented with the ability to draft concise reports and communications.
-Proficiency in social media platforms.
-Eagerness to engage in political action committee solicitations and campaigns.

About the Supervisor:
Your supervisor will be Manuel Bonilla, Chief Advocacy Officer at American Society of Anesthesiologists, a seasoned professional in advocacy and legislative affairs, bringing a wealth of experience in shaping healthcare policies.

Location and Modality:
This internship is in Washington D.C. Interns will be expected to attend meetings on Capitol Hill.

Start and End Date:
Summer internships will take place during the period of June 10 - September 27 with specific dates to be determined by the employer partner and intern during the interview process.

Modality Notes

Our team works in the office 8 days per month, 6 of which can be your own choice in addition to the 2nd and 4th Mondays.
